Salterns Marina hosts RNLI Fishing Competition!

The RNLI Poole Fishing competition took place on Sunday 20th January 2019.

On the morning of January 20th the sun rose over Salterns Marina as fishing boats gathered for the first RNLI Poole Fundraising Open Boat Flounder Competition.

Thank you for all the support. It was uplifting to see so many boats afloat and the many generous donations of prizes was truly heart warming.

The weather out in the harbour was clear and calm. There was a slight north easterly breeze which put some colour in the competitors gills as the 43 fishers cast their lines, of which 7 took home a prize for landing a flounder.

Congratulations to Bobi Francis who won first place after landing a fish weighing in at 2lb 15oz. Bobi was presented with a trophy donated to the RNLI Poole and District Fundraising branch.

  • £20 voucher – donated by Wessex Angling Centre
  • Salterns Marina and Christchurch Angling Centre also donated prizes for the raffle.

Poole and district RNLI volunteer and event organiser Sarah Birchenough said;

We were really pleased that so many fishing folk turned out as this was the first time that we had held this event, huge thanks to Salterns Marina for hosting us and all those who donated prizes both for the competition and the raffle, we really do appreciate the support and I am pleased to share that we raised £171 which will go towards saving lives at sea, thank you’.
